Well, that’s it! Another year, another absolutely mind-blowing Blackpool Magic Convention done and dusted. From the 13th to the 17th of February, 2025, up to 5,000 magicians from all over the world descended upon the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, turning the place into a whirlwind of tricks, laughs, and the occasional suspiciously floating object.

I headed over with a huge Irish crew to the Blackpool Magic Convention, and let me tell you – if there’s one thing we know how to do, it’s bring the energy! And we needed it because this convention is non-stop. There are thousands of dealers flogging their latest magic products, incredible lectures and workshops from some of the best minds in magic, and of course, jaw-dropping performances in the stunning Opera House Theatre.

A Magician’s Playground

From the second you step into the Winter Gardens, you can feel the buzz. Everywhere you turn, there’s someone either performing something incredible, trying to sell you something incredible, or looking extremely suspicious as they palm a deck of cards. The dealer’s hall is like Disneyland for magicians – stalls packed with brand-new effects, impossible gimmicks, and props you didn’t even know you needed. One minute, you’re watching a world-class performer demo their latest trick, the next, you’re walking away with an empty wallet and a bag full of stuff you swear you’re actually going to use this time. (We all know how that goes…)

World-Class Performances & Competitions

Now, the real magic happens in the theatres. Every night, the gala shows bring together some of the biggest names in the industry, delivering performances that are equal parts mind-blowing and inspiring. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday each had their own unique line-up, featuring everything from close-up wizardry to grand illusions that had the entire audience on their feet. And in between all that? The competitions! Magicians from around the world battling it out for top honours, showing off their most original and creative material. Some acts were pure genius, some were downright bonkers, but all of them were brilliant in their own way.

The Ruskin: Where the Real Convention Happens

Now, anyone who’s been to Blackpool before knows that once the Winter Gardens close their doors for the night, the real magic begin… at the Ruskin. This legendary hotel bar is where magicians gather until the early hours, sharing tricks, jamming ideas, and generally having an absolute laugh. You can end up in a deep discussion about the philosophy of misdirection with a world champion one minute, and the next, you’re in a battle of wits with a street magician who swears they’ve got the best new effect of the year. It’s chaotic, it’s electric, and its hands-down one of the best parts of the whole experience.

Already Counting Down to Next Year

Honestly, as an Irish magician there’s nothing quite like Blackpool. It’s more than just a convention – it’s a massive, mad, magical family reunion. Whether you’re a seasoned pro, a hobbyist, or just someone who loves the craft, there’s something here for everyone. Leaving is always a bit of a heartbreak, but the good news? It all happens again next year! So, if you missed out this time, do yourself a favour and get yourself there in 2026. You won’t regret it.

Until then, it’s time to unpack the magic haul, start practising, and figure out how to convince people I definitely needed everything I bought.
See you next year, Blackpool!
